NIFT Situation Test

NIFT Exam (Round 2)

The final step in order to secure admission in B.Des and M.Des programme offered at different NIFT campuses is to appear for the Situation Test. NIFT Entrance Exam is a two-tiered process, wherein, aspirants need to give CAT (Creative Ability Test), GAT (General Ability Test) followed by the Situation Test.

NIFT Exam consists of the following:

1. Round 1: Written Test

  • General Ability Test (GAT) – All applicants
  • Creative Ability Test (CAT) – B.Des & M.Des applicants only

2. Round 2: Situation Test / Group Discussion / Interview

  • Situation Test – B.Des Applicants only
  • Group Discussion and Personal Interview – For M.Des, M.F.Tech & M.F.M Applicants only

Each of these is described below:

Situation Test:

Situation test is basically a hands-on test which is used to evaluate candidate’s skills for material handling and innovative ability. This is done based on the given situation and set of materials. One should keep in mind that no additional material will be provided or allowed. The model will be evaluated on space visualization, innovative and creative use of the given material, the composition of elements, colour scheme, construction skill, the finesse of the model and at last overall presentation. These parameters will then be checked with the write up explaining the concept used in the model constructed. Since the medium of instruction in NIFT Exam is English, the write-up will be in English only. No marks will be given for write-up in any other language.

NOTE : Students seeking admission in M.Des programmes have to appear for GD-PI round after the situation test.

Group Discussion / Personal Interview :

Shortlisted candidates for Masters Programs from the written entrance exam are required to undergo Case Study based Group Discussions (GD) and Personal Interview (PI).

Group Discussion would comprise approximately 15 to 20 minutes for discussion on a case study assigned, for which a panel of experts will assess the candidates on various parameters including Conceptual clarity, Knowledge of the topic assigned, Contribution made to the topic, Interpersonal skills, Ability to generate new ideas, Problem-solving approach, Leadership qualities, Effective communication.

In the personal interview, candidates will be evaluated based on the various parameters such as career orientation, aptness for the course, overall personal achievements in academics and co-curricular activities, communication, general awareness, aptitude, creative and lateral thinking.

It is recommended for B.Des aspirants to prepare a portfolio as well since, surprises are always there at the Studio Test.
